Parcel Gilt Silver Torah Shield (TAS), Germany, Ca 1890.

The shield’s border is chased with matte leafage surrounding the quilted field.
With typical applied symbols including – two pillars with gilt eagles finials, the Tables of The Decalogue engraved with the Ten Commandments flanked by two ramping lions and topped with a Torah crown (all gilded).
The hinged plaque box includes a double sided plaque inscribed in Hebrew “Sabbath” on one side and “Passover” on the other (later replacement).
The plaque box cover is inscribed in English – “Presented to the Manchester Hebrew congregation by George Moritz in loving memory of his dear parents May 1890”.
Connected with a hanging chain.
